Like to solve puzzles? Enjoy a challenge? Or maybe you’re looking for a rainy day activity or a team building experience. Escapology, a new Escape Room in Destin, hits all those things. Having just opened inside the Market Shops at Sandestin, they have one of the largest selection of room choices, ranging from easy to advanced. If you’ve never done an Escape Room before (like me!) not to worry – I’m going to take you through the experience!
I took a group of colleagues as an evening out, and we were immediately impressed with the decor and design of the interior lobby area. The wallpaper, furniture, and even the books on the table all tied together into a theme and we knew we were in good hands. We entered Escapology’s Budapest Train Car Murder Mystery room to try our hand at escaping.
You’re given 60 minutes to scour the room for clues, keys, and solve puzzles that will unlock more doors and help you solve the mystery. Each room has 3 hints that you can use if you get stuck, to help keep you on track. I was lucky that two of our group had prior experience with Escape Rooms, so they had more of an idea of what to look for and how to piece it together. In the end, we were able to unlock all doors and clues with 10 minutes to spare, while we then tried to order the pieces and solve the murder. We had to use our 3rd and final hint, but we escaped with just seconds left – So exciting!
What sets Escapology in Destin apart from other Escape Rooms is that they have 6 different rooms to choose from, which not only means you can visit more than once for a new adventure, but it gives you varying difficulty levels to try. Another thing we love is that they will not pair you with strangers – It is just you and your party working the room together, with a 2 person minimum per room. Kids as young as 8 or 9 are also welcome! While it may seem too difficult for them, there is a game master watching and can give hints or clues appropriate for the age group.

And I couldn’t have said it better myself. We all worked together to find clues, took turns piecing things together and discussing different options. Being my first Escape Room experience, I can say with confidence that I was throughly impressed with how thought out things were, and how different the thought process ended up being from what I was expecting. I will be back and I can’t wait to try another room at Escapology Destin!
